In August 2026, the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission released Aged Care Code of Conduct - a guide for aged care workers and responsible persons.

If you work or volunteer in aged care, are a registered provider or responsible person, then the Code of Conduct applies to you.

The Aged Care Code of Conduct supports older people’s right to choice, dignity and respect. The Code aims to improve the safety, health, wellbeing and quality of life of people who receive aged care.

The guide explains the Code of Conduct and what it means for your role, including:

• who the Code applies to
• the 8 requirements of the Code
• behaviour expected
• behaviour that is unacceptable
• how the Code fits with your broader responsibilities, including upholding the Statement of Rights and the Aged Care Quality Standards (Quality Standards)

• what the Commission can do if they think you’re not following the Code
