Our Election Priorities

FAQS

We use a range of sources to inform our statements and submissions. They include the things you have told us during our ongoing consultations, surveys, and in feedback on our programs. We also draw on research evidence, what we hear through collaborative work with other community organisations and the many committees, forums, and advisory groups we attend as well as policy and practice developments around Australia and the world to help us stay on top of the latest ideas.

We have been a trusted voice for Queenslanders for over 60 years. We have seen a lot of Governments come and go over that time, and we have worked with each of them to get the best outcomes for all of us as we age. We are known by political parties and Government officials as an independent source of knowledge and ideas around issues affecting older people.

One of the ways we have been able to do this is by engaging with and advocating for the diverse voices of older Queenslanders and their communities. Your contribution is a vital part of that.

One of the most important ways that we develop positions on issues and recommendations for Goverment is by listening directly to Queenslanders. Your voice matters! All the comments, concerns, and suggestions gathered through this consultation will be collected and analysed to help us assess our priorities and shape our recommendations. We will look at your contributions alongside all our other data to make sure we are as informed as we can be about the issues.

We are not able to cover every issue in this statement. However, we will look at all the comments and suggestions that are raised and even if something is not included in our final priority statement, it will still be used to inform our ongoing advocacy work with the Queensland Government.

First and foremost, this document is a statement of the policies and changes that we believe the incoming Queensland Government needs to put in place. We will send the document to each of the parties and candidates running for election in Queensland as well as to their parties' offices. We will use the information from the document to talk with candidates and party officials about their policies. We will also use the document to create detailed breifing documents on particular issues for Government officials in different departtments both before and after the election. As well as this, we will use the document to write articles, media releases and media comment to raise awareness of the issues.

No. We work with all candidates to promote positive outcomes for Queenslanders and we advocate on all our election priorities to all parties. We are not affiliated with any political party.

We do our work both independently and through funded programs and projects. Some of this funding comes from the Federal Government, some comes from the State Government, and some comes from other sources. We maintain good working relationships with all levels of Government on the understanding that our advocacy and advice is, and must remain, independent. We won't accept any funding that requires us to support or promote a particular party.
