Overview

This free LGBTIQ+ ageing and aged care training is designed to support workers and care partners to better understand the experiences, needs and rights of older LGBTIQ+ people. The session encourages reflective practice and provides practical strategies to help ensure older people feel safe, respected, visible and supported when accessing care and services.

Participants will explore a range of important topics, including:

  • Understanding the experiences and needs of older LGBTIQ+ people
  • Rights-based and person-centred approaches to care
  • Creating culturally safe and inclusive environments
  • Reflecting on inclusive communication and support practices
  • Strategies to improve confidence in delivering affirming care
  • Discussion of challenges and opportunities within aged care settings
