17 June 2021: The role of the Commonwealth Home Support Program in your community survey has closed
Thank you to everyone who completed ‘The role of the Commonwealth Home Support Program in Your Community’ survey. We received 69 responses from across Queensland and greatly appreciate the time you have taken to share your thoughts, experiences and ideas. What you told us is currently being summarised and will be shared with you soon. Your contributions will inform our ongoing feedback to the government and other identified organisations.
We use a range of sources to inform our statements and submissions and the positions we take when advocating for older people. They include the things you have told us during our ongoing consultations, surveys, and in feedback on our programs. We also draw on research evidence, what we hear through collaborative work with other community organisations and the many committees, forums, and advisory groups we attend as well as policy and practice developments around Australia and the world to help us stay on top of the latest ideas.
We have been a trusted voice for Queenslanders for over 60 years. We have seen a lot of Governments come and go over that time, and we have worked with each of them to get the best outcomes for all of us as we age. We are known by political parties and Government officials as an independent source of knowledge and ideas around issues affecting older people.
One of the ways we have been able to do this is by engaging with and advocating for the diverse voices of older Queenslanders and their communities. Your contribution is a vital part of that.
One of the most important ways that we get to understand the issues and develop recommendations for Government is by listening directly to Queenslanders. Your voice matters! All the comments, concerns, and suggestions gathered through this consultation will be collected and analysed to help us develop our advocacy position around the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) aged care program. In particular we are interested in what are the strengths of CHSP and how it contributes to creating communities where people can age well. We will look at your contributions alongside all our other data to make sure we are as informed as we can be about the issues.
A major role for us as the peak body for seniors in Queensland is in understanding and advocating on the concerns and needs of Queenslanders as we age. We are frequently asked for our advice and to share what we are hearing from older people about the issues. We will use the information from this consultation to help us understand what older Queenslanders, and the organisations working with them, are experiencing and what they need. This will be used to inform development of resources, and advice to Government about the development of resources and supports as the situation develops.
No. We work with all parties to promote positive outcomes for Queenslanders. We are not affiliated with any political party.
We do our work both independently and through funded programs and projects. Some of this funding comes from the Federal Government, some comes from the State Government, and some comes from other sources. We maintain good working relationships with all levels of Government on the understanding that our advocacy and advice is, and must remain, independent. We won't accept any funding that requires us to support or promote a particular party.
