  • New Postcards to Support Conversations About Social Connection

We’re pleased to share that we've developed a new set of postcards to help start conversations about social connection, isolation and community participation. The postcards feature simple visual stories that can be used as engagement tools or conversation starters in a range of settings. They could be useful when working one-on-one with community members, during group activities, at events, or as a resource to leave in community spaces. They are real lived experience and community stories from the Townsville Age Well Stay Connected Event held in September 2025.

    A simple visual approach

In developing the postcards, we explored three different versions of the visual stories. We made some changes to the original design, including simplifying the layout and reducing the amount of text. This was intended to allow the visual stories to stand out and make the postcards easier to engage with at a glance.

We have also removed specific references to Townsville so the postcards can be used more broadly in communities across Queensland.

We’d love to hear what you think. In particular, we’re interested in whether you feel the postcards would be useful in your work, how you might use them with community members, and whether there are any changes that would make them more effective as conversation starters.

There’s no rush to provide feedback — we know everyone is busy. If you have a moment to have a look, we’d really appreciate your thoughts.

Disclaimer. The postcards were designed using graphical recordings by Rachel Apelt (Artbalm) at the Townsville Age Well Stay Connected Event in Sept 2025.
