  • A new Brisbane City Council Age-Friendly initiative

As part of Brisbane City Council’s Age-Friendly initiative, they are working to establish 3–5 Chatty Tables across the city, with Marhaba Café being their first partner and launch site.

The Chatty Café Australia initiative is a simple but powerful concept, where a designated “Chatty Table” invites people to sit down, have a cuppa, and enjoy a friendly conversation.

They’re currently looking for a volunteer to help bring this space to life at Marhaba Café.

Marhaba Café – Chatty Table details

    • When: Every Friday, 11:00am
    • Location: Level 20/69 Ann St, Brisbane City
    • Access: Wheelchair accessible
    • How to find us: Basement of City Hall, entrance via Adelaide Street (opposite bus stop 20)

💬 What does the role involve?

The volunteer would host the table for around 1–2 hours per week, helping to:

    • Welcome people and create a warm, inclusive atmosphere
    • Encourage conversation and connection
    • Gently invite anyone who may be sitting alone to join

This is a small commitment, but it plays an important role in helping people feel less socially isolated and more connected.

    🌼 Who would this suit?

Someone who enjoys chatting with others, is friendly and patient, and is passionate about creating welcoming spaces in the community.

If this sounds like something you (or someone in your network) might be interested in, I’d love to hear from you or connect you with more information about how to get involved.
