Strategic Understanding of the Commonwealth Home Support Program

(for Senior Managers and Board members)

The CHSP plays a critical role in providing older Australians with the support they need to live independently in their homes. From 1 July 2025, the Support at Home program will replace the existing Home Care Packages (HCP) Program and Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC) Program. The Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) will transition to the new program no earlier than 1 July 2027.

It is a pivotal moment for all CHSP providers as the landscape of aged care experiences significant transformation. The demand for CHSP services is rapidly increasing, with more older Australians seeking support to live independently at home. The ability to adapt, innovate, and collaborate will be key to success in the sector.

Overview

Attendees will explore significant aspects of CHSP, including:

  • An in-depth look at the strategic priorities of CHSP and its place within the broader aged care system.
  • Overview of the new support at Home Program, what that means for CHSP providers.
  • The revised service categories of CHSP, such as domestic assistance, personal care, nursing, social support, and respite care.
  • Insights into the governance responsibilities of service providers, and the importance of adhering to CHSP guidelines, the Code of Conduct in Aged Care and the Aged Care Quality Standards (where applicable).
  • Key components of the CHSP compliance framework and how a continuous improvement approach can support the ongoing transition to future directions in service delivery.
